Description

High-Performance Bi-Metal Lug for Large Aluminium Conductors

The CABAC BL400 Bi-Metal Lug is designed for reliable termination of stranded sector and circular stranded aluminium conductors, making it a dependable choice for large-capacity electrical installations. Manufactured from 99.6% aluminium and 99.9% copper, the lug uses a friction-welded joint that creates a strong, electrically sound bond between the aluminium barrel and copper palm. The barrel is chemically treated to minimise contact resistance and corrosion, helping maintain consistent electrical performance over time. Each lug is also pre-filled with jointing compound that breaks oxide layers on aluminium conductors, improving conductivity and ensuring a solid connection once crimped.

For best results, the lug should be crimped from the palm end first, forcing the compound into the conductor strands and delivering a secure, long-lasting termination on demanding installations.

Built for Electrical Reliability and Standards Compliance

CABAC’s bi-metal lugs are engineered for dependable performance across a wide range of environments. The friction welding process eliminates electrolysis between the copper palm and aluminium barrel, reducing the risk of degradation in mixed-metal connections. Fully annealed construction provides excellent ductility and strength, supporting proper crimp formation and maintaining mechanical integrity during installation. With a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 100°C, these lugs are suitable for both indoor and outdoor electrical applications. The product also aligns with recognised international standards including AS/NZS 4325 Part 1, IEC, DIN/VDE, JIS, and BS, giving electricians confidence the termination meets compliance requirements on commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

Trade-Friendly Installation with Standard Tooling

Designed for efficiency on site, the CABAC BL400 bi-metal lug is compatible with standard Australian crimping tooling and normal aluminium hexagonal dies, reducing the need for specialised equipment. Tooling is interchangeable with CABAC, Utilux, and Burndy systems, making it easier for contractors to integrate into existing toolkits. The straightforward installation process helps minimise downtime during switchboard builds, mains connections, and heavy-duty distribution work. When reliability, compliance, and speed matter, this lug provides a practical solution for electricians managing large conductor terminations across residential developments, commercial installations, and industrial sites.
