Description

Built for High-Performance Aluminium Conductor Connections

The CABAC BL180LPB Bi-Metal Lug is designed specifically for 180mm² aluminium conductors, providing a dependable connection between aluminium cable and copper terminals. Its long barrel design allows for an additional crimping position, helping electricians achieve a secure mechanical and electrical bond when working with larger conductors or long palm configurations.

Manufactured using 99.6% aluminium sleeves and 99.9% copper palms, the lug delivers excellent conductivity and dependable current transfer across mixed-metal terminations. Each barrel is pre-filled with jointing compound, which breaks down oxide layers on aluminium conductors during crimping to improve electrical contact and reduce resistance. The chemically treated barrel further assists with corrosion resistance, helping maintain performance over time in demanding installations.

For contractors working with Covered Conductor Thick (CCT) conductors, the unfinished long palm design provides the flexibility to crop and drill holes to suit specific project requirements, making it easier to customise connections on site.

Reliable Bi-Metal Construction for Long-Term Compliance

Electrical reliability is critical when connecting aluminium conductors to copper equipment, and the CABAC BL180LPB is built to handle that challenge. The aluminium barrel and copper palm are joined using friction welding, creating a strong, electrically sound joint that prevents electrolysis and maintains consistent conductivity throughout the life of the installation.

Fully annealed metal construction ensures the lug remains ductile and easy to crimp using standard Australian tooling, supporting consistent termination quality across installations. The design aligns with Australian dimensions, helping electricians maintain compatibility with common crimping tools used across the industry.

The lug also complies with recognised international and Australian standards including:

  • AS/NZS4325 Part 1

  • IEC France

  • DIN/VDE Germany

  • JIS Japan

  • BS United Kingdom

This compliance helps ensure installations meet required electrical safety expectations while delivering stable long-term performance in overhead or distribution systems.

Trade-Ready Flexibility for Electrical Contractors

Electrical contractors working on overhead networks or specialised conductor systems often need connection hardware that adapts to real-world job conditions. The CABAC BL180LPB is designed with this flexibility in mind.

The unfinished long palm allows custom cropping and drilling, enabling electricians to position one to three mounting holes depending on switchgear or busbar requirements. This adaptability reduces the need to source multiple lug variations and helps speed up installation when site conditions change.

For projects using CCT conductors, which feature polyethylene coverings and water-blocking compounds, this lug provides the correct interface between aluminium overhead conductors and copper termination points. By ensuring proper termination, electricians can minimise flashover risk, improve reliability of distribution networks, and maintain safe conductor spacing in vegetation-sensitive areas.

For busy contractors managing tight schedules, having reliable bi-metal lugs on hand means fewer installation issues, faster terminations, and reduced risk of costly downtime on site.
