Description

High-Performance Bi-Metal Lug for Aluminium to Copper Connections

The CABAC BL150-12 Bi-Metal Lug is designed to deliver a secure, low-resistance termination when connecting 150 mm² aluminium conductors to copper terminals. Manufactured using 99.6% aluminium and 99.9% copper, the lug is friction-welded to create a strong and electrically sound bond that performs reliably in demanding installations. The aluminium barrel is pre-filled with jointing compound, helping break down oxide layers during crimping and improving electrical contact across the conductor strands. When installed correctly using standard aluminium hexagonal dies, the compound is forced through the conductor to ensure a solid termination that reduces heat build-up and maintains conductivity over time. Built for stranded sector and circular stranded aluminium conductors, this lug is a dependable solution for switchboards, distribution equipment, and large cable terminations where aluminium cable meets copper busbars or terminals.

Built for Reliability and Electrical Compliance

For contractors working on commercial and industrial installations, connection reliability is critical. The CABAC bi-metal lug range uses friction welding in accordance with IEC standards, ensuring the aluminium sleeve and copper palm remain mechanically strong and electrically stable. This design prevents electrolysis between dissimilar metals, helping extend connection life and reduce the risk of failures.

The barrel is also chemically treated to reduce contact resistance and corrosion, supporting consistent performance in a wide range of electrical environments. Compliance with recognised international standards helps ensure the lug meets installation requirements across regulated projects, including:

  • AS/NZS 4325 Part 1

  • IEC

  • DIN/VDE

  • JIS

  • BS

With a fully annealed metal state and high tensile strength, the lug maintains ductility during crimping, giving electricians a reliable termination that holds up under load and environmental stress.

Designed for Efficient Trade Installation

On busy job sites, electricians need components that install quickly and work with the tooling they already carry. The BL150-12 lug is designed to be crimped using standard Australian aluminium hexagonal dies, with tooling interchangeable across CABAC, Utilux, and Burndy systems. Installation is straightforward: crimp from the palm end first to drive the jointing compound through the conductor strands, ensuring optimal contact and corrosion protection. This simple installation method reduces the risk of poor terminations and helps keep projects moving without delays. For contractors managing multiple installations or switchboard builds, using reliable components like CABAC lugs means fewer call-backs, faster commissioning, and greater confidence that every termination meets the required electrical standards.
