Description
Strong, Low-Resistance Connections for Aluminium Conductors
The CABAC Bi-Metal Lug 35mm² â 12mm Stud (BL35-12) is designed to deliver a reliable termination when connecting aluminium conductors to copper busbars or equipment. Manufactured using 99.6% aluminium for the barrel and 99.9% copper for the palm, the lug uses a friction-welded joint to create a strong and electrically sound connection. The barrel is chemically treated to minimise contact resistance and corrosion, while the pre-filled jointing compound breaks down oxide layers on aluminium conductors to improve conductivity and long-term performance. When crimped correctly from the palm end first, the compound is forced into the conductor strands, helping create a secure and consistent termination.
This design helps electricians achieve dependable electrical connections in switchboards, distribution equipment, and power installations where aluminium conductors are used.
Built for Compliance and Long-Term Reliability
CABAC bi-metal lugs are manufactured to meet recognised international and Australian standards, giving contractors confidence when working on compliant installations. The friction-welded copper-to-aluminium construction prevents electrolysis, ensuring durability and stable performance across a wide range of environments. With a fully annealed metal structure, the lug maintains excellent ductility while delivering strong mechanical performance. The design supports reliable conductivity with aluminium rated at 61.8% IACS minimum conductivity and copper at 99.7% IACS.
The lug is engineered to operate in demanding electrical environments, supporting temperatures from -40°C to 100°C, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor switchboard applications. Compliance standards include:
-
AS/NZS 4325 Part 1
-
IEC (France)
-
DIN/VDE (Germany)
-
JIS (Japan)
-
BS (United Kingdom)
These recognised standards help ensure installations meet safety and regulatory expectations across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
Trade-Friendly Installation for Fast Site Work
The BL35-12 bi-metal lug is designed for straightforward installation using standard Australian aluminium hexagonal crimp dies, with tooling interchangeable across CABAC, Utilux, and Burndy systems. This allows electricians to complete terminations quickly without specialised equipment. Suitable for stranded sector and circular stranded aluminium conductors, the lug provides a practical solution for switchboards, distribution boards, and power connections where aluminium cables need to terminate onto copper equipment. For busy contractors managing tight project schedules, reliable lugs that install easily help reduce rework, maintain consistent terminations, and keep jobs moving without delays. Available through iSupply Electrical with fast ordering and dependable stock access, itâs a practical choice for electricians who need compliant connection hardware on site when it matters.
