Description

Strong Aluminium-to-Copper Performance for Reliable Connections

The CABAC BL16 Bi-Metal Lug is designed to provide a dependable transition between aluminium conductors and copper terminations in electrical installations. Manufactured using 99.6% pure aluminium for the barrel and 99.9% pure copper for the palm, the lug is friction-welded to create a strong, electrically sound joint that maintains conductivity across demanding applications.

The barrel is chemically treated and pre-filled with jointing compound to break oxide layers on aluminium conductors and minimise contact resistance, helping ensure a stable electrical connection over time. When crimped correctly—starting from the palm end—the compound is forced into the conductor strands, improving surface contact and enhancing long-term performance. Designed for stranded sector and circular stranded aluminium conductors, it delivers consistent results across a wide range of installations.

Built for Compliance and Long-Term Reliability

Electrical contractors rely on components that meet recognised standards, and the CABAC bi-metal lug range is engineered to deliver both mechanical strength and electrical integrity. The friction-welded aluminium-to-copper joint eliminates the risk of electrolysis between dissimilar metals, making it suitable for installations where durability and reliability are critical.

The lug complies with multiple international and regional standards, supporting professional installations that must meet strict regulatory requirements. Its fully annealed metal construction provides the ductility needed during crimping while maintaining the tensile strength required for secure connections in switchboards, distribution equipment, and industrial installations.

The treated aluminium barrel also helps protect against corrosion and oxidation, helping reduce maintenance issues and preventing connection failures that could lead to downtime.

Trade-Friendly Installation with Standard Tooling

Designed with electricians in mind, the CABAC BL16 lug works with standard Australian crimping tools using normal aluminium hexagonal dies, eliminating the need for specialised equipment on site. Tooling compatibility across CABAC, Utilux, and Burndy systems provides flexibility for contractors already equipped with common crimping setups.

This makes installation straightforward for electrical contractors handling residential, commercial, and industrial work. Whether you’re terminating aluminium cables in switchboards or preparing conductors for distribution equipment, the design supports efficient installation while maintaining a consistent, compliant connection.

Reliable stock availability and fast supply help electricians keep projects moving without delays caused by missing termination hardware.
